Big Brother 28- Thursday Recap for 7/16/26

Good morning everyone, we’ve gotten through the first eviction of the season which left Ashley as the casualty. I don’t think it was hugely important who left since it was the first week but I do think Dee’s side of the house made the right decision. After Ashley spread too much info around the house, keeping her or trying to would have blown up the fact that the Crossovers and the Red Corner are working together. It wasn’t worth it to keep someone who may have just joined Melody and Romes side of the house anyway. As a first boot, Ashley may be remembered as the pretty girl who had never eaten a burger.

I was impressed with the way Melody stayed after it the past couple of days. This is definitely not a unanimous house but she may single-handedly be the reason last night was a unanimous vote. She basically forced the Crossovers and the Red Corner to vote the way she wanted in order to keep their relationships a secret. I can’t believe they recovered from almost being outed. Melody figured out if a side wanted to keep Ashley, she should want to get rid of her. Although she may be a little skeptical of Drew for now, she hasn’t figured out Drew and Barrett are with that other side.
Now that we have a new hoh, Melody may be in some trouble.

When it gets further into the season, I’ll recap more of Thursdays daytime activity and the live episode but for now, I’m going straight into last night. I feel like today is going to be an eventful day and nothing really happened during the day worth writing about.

The only thing I’ll mention about the episode is the twist. For the next 6 weeks, the viewers will vote to send someone into the time trip something or other. The chosen houseguests will have to complete a task or comp. If they win, they’ll get an advantage and if they lose they’ll get a punishment. I believe Julie said the advantages and punishments will be based off of ones in prior seasons. (I’ll spare you my usual rant about powers messing up the game. (I hate twists, everyone knows it, enough said so moving on)

SPOILERS BELOW
We already knew quite a few people planned to throw the HOH comp last night so there weren’t that many people actually trying to compete for it. I only know it was a knockout style comp and our new HOH is Devens. After his celebration and reading his HOH letter to himself, he was hoping to go to bed. (Not in this house on a Thursday night!)

Devens told Yash, Taylor and Mallory they were safe. He said he wasn’t going the wimpy route from the past of putting up the same people over and over again.

They were all grateful and Devens and Yash talked about possibly working together. (The usual)

I don’t know how all the Have Nots were chosen yet but Lyric volunteered. Rome wasn’t happy about this and he’s a have not too. He may have volunteered because she did. Jason, Barrett and maybe Kamu are also have nots. Rome and Lyric are now making out in the storage room since they can’t cuddle in a bunk bed.

The Red Corner and the Crossovers who were already working together, got together again and made it official. I don’t mind this and don’t see it as the usual super alliance with all the athletic people like we have some years. For starters, most of this house is pretty physically fit. Secondly, there’s two separate alliances within this new big alliance already so this shouldn’t be a steamroll season.

The Red Corner may think it’s real but the Crossovers know it isn’t. They’ve decided to name this new alliance the Tool Shed. (I mean, Red Cross was right there but ok)

Rome rang the hoh doorbell but Devens didn’t let him in. It’s the first time Rome looed like he thought he wasn’t running things. He’s sat waiting outside the door and I think also realized, maybe he’s not actually the president of the house. (He’s called himself that a few times lately)

After coming back downstairs, Rome told Lyric and Jason maybe he should just go open the door. Lyric told him not to and said it could make him a target.

Jason also confided in Rome about being on Drag Race. (Jason talks too much so I’m expecting him to tell more people now that he’s broken the seal)

Rome had his own talk with Devens. (They’re supposed to be watching each other’s back, remember?) Rome told Devens about his new alliance (The Four Seasons) with Drew, Lyric and Melody. He was offering to let Devens join it. (Sure, nothing makes you feel more valued than joining and already existing alliance the moment you win HOH) Rome asked Devens to keep himself, Lyric and Jason safe. He was offering up Melody, Mallory, Lala, etc. (You can bet this won’t stay a secret when Devens needs some votes this week)

I already know I’m going to be obsessed with screenshots in front of the clock this season.

If nothing else, we know the Four Seasons and Mama’s Angels, which is Jason, Rome and Lala arn’t his priority. Romes main two people are obviously Lyric and Jason. Initially, is seemed like Devens was going to put up Lala, Melody and Mallory. This would’ve appeased Rome since he only asked Devens to keep Lyric and Jason safe.

After talking with Angela, Devens is planning to nominate Jason, Lyric and Melody. Their hope is to have a chance at backdooring Rome. (Yes, I know technically there isn’t a back door with the Blockbuster but I’m still calling it that) There’s talk in the house about this being Angela’s idea and she IS the one who brought it up and got Devens all pumped for it. Devens said something a couple of days ago about putting up Lyric and Jason but it does seem like it was Angela who got the plan moving. Haley also suggested it last night too. Devens began the night by saying he was going to bed early. He ended it by planning to start a war. (Shit changes, I guess)

These arn’t bad noms for Devens even if they can’t get Rome. He knows Jason is after him and it’s gotten back to him Melody wants him out too. He’d already told Rome that he was having a hard time getting Lyric to talk any game with him. Devens said Lyric only says “I don’t know” to everything. (True) I don’t know if Devens will tell Rome he knows or thinks Jason is coming after him to soften the blow. I also don’t know if that will work even if he does it.

Angela was coming up with ideas for the nom ceremony. She came up with some line about how “it already feels like two tribes” so Devin’s could have a Survivor reference. (As far as the cheesy stuff they say at the nomination ceremony, it was actually pretty good) Devens said he doesn’t care about the blow back and is ready to blow everything up. (Thank you Devens)

In other news….
Haley got into it and little bit with Yash. He was talking about her to Kamu and Haley and Dee overheard it. She walked into the room and called him out on it. (It wasn’t that big of a thing) Dee is doing a better job of faking that she likes Dee. She was slipping a little bit this week with it.

Drew was twinning with Mallory by wearing unicorn pajamas with her.

Barrett was annoyed to find out Rome suggested him as a nominee.

Lala suggested to Devens that he put Haley up. She said Haley was playing too hard and too fast. Devens said he would but he had already promised her safety. I think she came in second in the comp but obviously we know that’s not why she’s safe.
Jason was paranoid and asked Barrett if he was trying to trick him.

Angela asked Devens not to tell Barrett and Drew alot of info until the last minute. After not trusting Drew, she went back to trusting Drew and now she doesn’t trust Drew again. (This will continue) Devens said he wouldn’t but that was just to keep Angela happy.

Rome called out the hoh room group when they came downstairs after meeting. He told them he wanted to hang out with them but they wouldn’t let him in. No one said very much or was even apologetic about it. Haley told him they didn’t hear the doorbell. Yes people, this war has started. (I think Dee started the precedent this past week for it to be a ‘ring the doorbell before you come into the HOH’ kind of season.) It’s different every year and the 1st hoh usually sets the tone.

I think all Rome needed to do was ask for himself and Lyric to be safe and then offer to vote however Devens wanted. Instead, he whipped out a list of people and said Devens could join an existing alliance. (Not smart) It may not have mattered anyway but Rome definitely didn’t have the right strategy.

It was kind of a waste to give up on trying to keep Ashley if they were going to blow their cover a few hours later anyway. Of course, I understand they didn’t know who was going to win the hoh. If someone on the other side won it, it was better for everyone to vote together. It’s just kind of funny the way it worked out.

I think the feeds could be really good today. Rome won’t be happy with Lyric on the block, even if he’s told Melody is the target. (Thats the plan) Jason may have an Angela style meltdown when he goes up too. Melody seems like a firecracker so I think she’s just going to be really pissed and it should be fun! Its obvious Devens is here for a good time but after today, maybe not a long time. I don’t care because I plan on having fun so thank you Devens.

I’m glad this season hasn’t gotten off to a slow start. There was alot of gaming going on the first week, even if some of it was sloppy. Besides, I enjoy the first few weeks when we’re watching the players learn how to play the game. So far, I think the season has a lot of potential. I also wouldn’t get hung up on the unanimous vote last night because that was only strategy and a good one. This is absolutely not a unified kumbaya house.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Mel
